Circe by Madeline Miller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I haven’t read a book about Greek mythology that I’ve loved so much since Percy Jackson.
Circe, the child of the Titan Helios, discovers that she has powers that frighten even Zeus. In fact, she is so threatening to the king of the Olympians that he banishes her to live on a deserted island, where she meets a whole host of figures from classic Greek myths. Ranging from the heroes Odysseus and Jason to finding herself an enemy of one of the major 12 Olympians, Circe’s life swings from being solitary to a whirlwind.
The character Circe is fierce and this book does such a great job of bringing her character to life. I don’t have much to say other than if you haven’t read this book, what are you doing?!?!
Powerful and at times heartbreaking Circe is a wonderful read that will leave you feeling mesmerized.
I will caution that this book is probably not the most accessible when it comes to Greek Mythology and you most likely want to have at least a working knowledge of the basics before reading. But if you don’t that will be ok because there is a cast of characters explanation portion at the back!
