The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Deals with the gods that answer after dark should not be taken lightly. The concept of this book is so unique and was executed perfectly.
Addie LaRue is a woman in 16th century France that desperately wants to escape an arranged marriage. She turns to a mysterious dark force whom she prayed to at night, something she was specifically warned against doing. She begs for help and says to him that all she wants is to live. What she didn’t expect was an immortal life, but with a twist. For the next three centuries any person that meets Addie, forgets her the moment they leave her presence. Until one day she meets Henry, and he remembers her.
My main advice is DON’T GIVE UP. I admit it got a bit slow in the middle of the story but the ending in my opinion is perfect and bittersweet. I sometimes got a little too lost in the story and was majorly stressing about Addie and Henry. To me, that’s how I know that a story is compelling. I truly cared about them as characters.
The writing is exquisite and you can tell how much purpose and thought went into every single word. Nothing beats the ending, no spoilers, but it is absolutely phenomenal and you couldn’t ask for anything better in my opinion.
I can tell from other reviews that this book is not for everyone but if you’re willing to power through the sometimes repetitive flashbacks then I think it is totally worth it.
